You may be an ideal candidate for a chin augmentation procedure if you are interested in changing the look of chin. Preparation
An initial consultation with Dr. Minton is the first step to any procedure. There he will discuss your health history and closely examine your chin to determine the precise changes to be made in order to meet your needs. Painkillers like as aspirin and ibuprofen increase risk of bleeding and should be avoided two weeks before and two weeks after your chin augmentation.
The Chin Augmentation Procedure
A chin augmentation involves placing an implant beneath the skin to alter the shape of the chin.Sedation with local anesthesia is commonly used for the surgery, though some procedures may be performed with general anesthesia. A small incision is made just under the chin area. Once the incision is made, the Dr. Minton will create a pocket over the front of the jawbone, insert the properly sized implant, and then close the incisions with sutures.
After The Procedure
After a chin augmentation, a dressing is applied to the area. Patients may experience some discomfort the first couple of day after the surgery, though this can be controlled with medication. Swelling and bruising is also common. The stitches will be removed within 5 to 7 days. Most patients are able to return to work within one week, though strenuous activity should be avoided for several weeks.

After the initial consultation, a chin augmentation usually takes 30 minutes to one hour.
Sutures will be removed about a week after the chin augmentation. Bruising and swelling will begin to improve 1-2 weeks after surgery. Patients can usually return to work within a week though more strenuous activities can be resumed after about 6 weeks.
The patient doesn’t feel anything during a chin augmentation. Post surgery, patients are likely to experience discomfort such as swelling and bruising at the site of the surgery, but this tends to resolve in about a week. Dr. Minton can prescribe medicine to help ease any discomfort.
The goal for every chin augmentation is to provide the patient with the most natural-looking results. This includes making incisions in areas where they are not noticeable. Because chin augmentation incisions are made beneath the chin, they’re virtually invisible.
Outside of surgery, some fillers can be used to improve the shape of the chin. Though temporary, fillers can give patients a preview of more permanent procedures, such as a chin augmentation. Dr. Minton can help determine which procedure is best to address your needs.
Yes, some patients elect to have additional procedures while undergoing a chin augmentation, such as a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), rhinoplasty or mini facelift. Having multiple procedures at one time can limit the amount of downtime overall and provide more dramatic results, depending on the patient’s goals.
