Reduce the signs of aging with intense pulse light therapy
As we get older our skin can show aging in a number of undesirable ways such as rosacea, sun damage, discoloration and spider veins. One of the most effective treatments for such surface skin issues is intense pulse light therapy. In addition to the fact that it can address numerous skin conditions, intense pulse light therapy does so without injuring the skin’s surface. This gentle, long-lasting solution for visible signs of skin damage also requires no downtime.
Intense pulse light therapy works by delivering a series of tiny microscopic laser beams or columns into the skin. This fractionated energy penetrates the skin to clear away old and damaged skin cells. The body’s natural healing process then builds new healthy cells to take their place. The laser also stimulates the production of new collagen deep within your skin, giving you a more youthful looking appearance.
You may be an ideal candidate for intense pulse light therapy if you have any of the age-related skin issues listed above. As with all medical procedures, excellent candidates are those in good overall health and who have informed, realistic expectations.
An initial consultation with Dr. Minton is the first step to any procedure. There he will discuss your health history.
THE INTENSE LIGHT THERAPY PROCEDURE
The procedure for intense light therapy is fairly simple with little to moderate discomfort. First, the skin is thoroughly cleaned then Dr. Minton may apply a topical anesthetic to ease any discomfort.
The intense pulse light hand piece is passed over the treatment area, emitting calibrated light waves which vary in intensity according to the type of skin, the location of the treatment area and treatment type, and the depth of energy penetration required for optimal results. You may feel heat or a tingling sensation during the treatment.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Immediately after the treatment, your skin will feel warm and appear to be sunburned. You may also experience some swelling, which is completely normal. Your body naturally starts working by replacing the aged skin cells with new ones. After a few days, you will notice healthier-looking skin and a more even complexion. Over time, collagen will regenerate and restore the supporting structure of your skin, giving you the smooth skin you are looking for.
Additional treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results.
