Voluma injectable gel filler available at Savannah Facial Plastic Surgery
Voluma is an injectable gel filler that’s part of the Juvederm family. This particular brand of Juvederm is a bit thicker, making it ideal for adding volume to the cheeks, cheekbones and chin, creating a lifted and more youthful appearance by restoring volume and structure. The process is quick, and the results are immediate.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
You may be an ideal candidate for Juvederm Voluma if you have sunken cheeks or sagging in the lower part of the face as a result of aging. Voluma can also improve the hollow appearance in the cheek area brought on by weight loss. As with all medical procedures, excellent candidates are those in good overall health and who have informed, realistic expectations.
PREPARATION
An initial consultation with Dr. Minton is the first step to any procedure. There he will discuss your health history. Medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided as they can increase the likelihood of bruising.
THE INJECTION PROCEDURE
The procedure for Juvederm Voluma is fairly simple and relatively painless. Dr. Minton uses a very thin needle to inject Juvederm Voluma beneath the skin. The number of injections depends on the desired results—all of which Dr. Minton will cover in the initial consultation.
There is little discomfort when receiving Juvederm Voluma injections. However, Dr. Minton may anesthetize the area before injection to help alleviate any minor discomfort.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
The great thing about Juvederm Voluma is that there’s no downtime. You can get back to your normal activities almost immediately, though there may be some initial redness for a few minutes. Temporary bruising may occur, but applying ice packs tends to help. Bruising and any swelling will disappear within a few hours or just a few days.
You will begin to see results immediately. Juvederm Voluma has been shown to last up to as long as 18 months.
FAQS
What is Juvederm Voluma?
Juvederm Voluma is a hyaluronic acid volumizer. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that adds hydration and volume to our skin.
How is Juvederm Voluma different than other Juvederm products?
All Juvederm products are injectable gels composed of hyaluronic acid, produced by the company, Allergan. Juvederm Voluma is a slightly thicker gel, to create a more dramatic effect in the areas of the cheek or chin, whereas other Juvederm products are thinner, and better suited for filling thin lines and wrinkles.
Is Juvederm Voluma safe?
Juvederm is a very safe treatment with very few risks or complications. However, it should not be used on women who are pregnant or nursing. Juvederm Voluma should not be used with some medications, which is why it’s important to give Dr. Minton information about any and all medications you are taking.
How long does a Juvederm Voluma treatment take?
After the initial consultation, a Juvederm Voluma treatment only takes about 15-30 minutes.
Will it hurt?
Juvederm Voluma is injected beneath the skin using a very fine needle, so while there is some initial discomfort–like a sting–it’s brief. Dr. Minton can use ice or a topical anesthesia to help ease any discomfort.
How long do the effects of Juvederm Voluma last?
The effects of Juvederm are temporary, but they can last up to 18 months. Dr. Minton may recommend a follow-up treatment to prolong the effects.
What if I’m not entirely satisfied with the results?
Sometimes “touch-up” injections are needed to get the best results. If you aren’t 100% satisfied with the procedure, Dr. Minton encourages you to call Savannah Facial Plastic Surgery to schedule a follow-up visit.
Is Juvederm Voluma a good alternative to surgery?
Unlike surgery, the effects of Juvederm Voluma are not permanent, so it is not considered an alternative to surgery, but Juvederm Voluma can prolong the need for surgery. Additionally, it can be used as a way to “preview” the results of more permanent procedures.
