Juvederm Injectable Gel effective in treating most common age-related facial issues
Juvederm is an injectable gel filler that’s ideal for filling fine lines and deeper wrinkles, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. Juvederm also restores volume and structure, which we tend to lose as we age. The process is quick, and the results are immediate.
Juvederm is especially effective in treating the most common age-related facial issues, such as:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Forehead lines and furrows
- Marionette and nasolabial lines around the mouth
- Thinning earlobes
- Thinning lips
- Hollowness under the eyes
Juvederm Voluma is a special formulation that can lift and restore volume when injected into the cheek area.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
You may be an ideal candidate for Juvederm and fillers if you have any of the age-related symptoms listed above and would like to regain a more youthful appearance. As with all medical procedures, excellent candidates are those in good overall health and who have informed, realistic expectations.
PREPARATION
An initial consultation with Dr. Minton is the first step to any procedure. There he will discuss your health history. Medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided as they can increase the likelihood of bruising.
THE INJECTION PROCEDURE
The procedure for Juvederm is fairly simple and relatively painless. Dr. Minton uses a very thin needle to inject Juvederm into the targeted areas. The number of injections depends on the intensity of the wrinkles, your facial features, and desired results—all of which Dr. Minton will cover in the initial consultation.
Some injection sites are more sensitive than others, but Dr. Minton may anesthetize the area before injection to help alleviate any minor discomfort.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
The great thing about Juvederm is that there’s no downtime. You can get back to your normal activities almost immediately, though there may be some initial redness for a few minutes. Temporary bruising may occur, but applying ice packs tends to help. Bruising and any swelling will disappear within a few hours or just a few days.
You will begin to see results immediately. Juvederm will last for 6 to 9 months on average.
FAQS
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is an injectable gel fill comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. Hyaluronic acid adds hydration and volume to our skin and is commonly used to treat arthritic joints and repair wounds.
How is Juvederm different than Botox?
Both Juvederm and Botox are injectables that improve the look of wrinkles. They’re also both produced by the same company, Allergan. Whereas Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkling, Juvederm fills in the areas, creating a more natural plumpness. Dr. Minton can recommend which injectable is right for you to best achieve your desired results.
Are there different kinds of Juvederm?
There are specific formulations of Juvederm in order to tailor the treatment to a patient’s unique needs. For instance, Juvederm Ultra uses a thinner gel to treat fine lines and wrinkles, whereas and Juvederm Ultra Plus uses a thicker gel ideal for plumping and treating deeper lines and wrinkles. Juvederm Voluma restores volume when injected into the cheek area. Dr. Minton can assess which treatment is right for your needs.
Is Juvederm safe?
Juvederm is a very safe treatment with very few risks or complications. However, it should not be used on women who are pregnant or nursing. Juvederm should not be used with some medications, which is why it’s important to give Dr. Minton information about any and all medications you are taking.
How long does a Juvederm treatment take?
After the initial consultation, a Juvederm treatment only takes about 15 minutes.
Will it hurt?
Juvederm is injected using a very fine needle, so while there is some initial discomfort–like a sting–it’s brief. Dr. Minton can use ice or a topical anesthesia to help ease any discomfort.
How long do the effects of Juvederm last?
The effects of Juvederm are temporary, but they will generally last 6 to 9 months. Dr. Minton may recommend a follow-up treatment to prolong the effects.
What if I’m not entirely satisfied with the results?
Sometimes “touch-up” injections are needed to get the best results. If you aren’t 100% satisfied with the procedure, Dr. Minton encourages you to call Savannah Facial Plastic Surgery to schedule a follow-up visit.
Is Juvederm a good alternative to surgery?
Unlike surgery, the effects of Juvederm are not permanent, so it is not considered an alternative to surgery, but Juvederm can prolong the need for surgery. Additionally, it can be used as a way to “preview” the results of more permanent procedures.
